Fools - The Dodos ... from Monday
Man Man was the previous night and I didn't give much thought to this show or what to expect. Very surprising two piece ... there was a third guy on occasion. Their live show reproduces the full sound of their album, despite only being a pair. This is my favorite new band. A nice mix of the blues and rock-n-roll with a contemporary edge. Meric Long does the best sing, play guitar and dance while staying seated routine I've ever seen. He could easily carry a crowd on his own. Logan Kroeber's drum work is the perfect complement to Long's singing/songwriting and makes what could be a solid solo act and solid band.

Man Man at the Bluebird
Missed another opener I wanted to see at the Bluebird. This time it was Yeasayer. Not sure why I forget to get to the Bluebird early.
Anyway, Man Man always puts on a good show. Here's a video from Sunday night of the song Harpoon Fever (Queequeg's Playhouse) from their album Rabbit Habits (Radio 1190's CD of the month.)

Add 1994's Dummy to your rotation.
The track I've heard from this year's Third sounded great. Apparently the album will be released in the U.S. on April 24.

Mister Jung Stuffed - Man Man
First track from their latest album - Rabbit Habits. Man Man is a must see show - one of the best I've seen. Gritty multitasking performers from Philly with endless amounts of energy. Catch'm tomorrow night at the Bluebird.

#93 Music Piracy - Finally!!!
From the blog devoted to stuff that white people like. Click here for the full report.
If Dave Chappelle was a contributor to this blog I wouldn't be surprised. Pointed racial humor that works.

Devils A-Go-Go - Blitzen Trapper
Blitzen Trapper played some cool new songs that I didn't get on video. Not seeing any info on the internet about upcoming B Trapper releases...
Great show! See VPatty's review below.

Feeling a bit Blitzed
I’ve always been a sucker for heavy percussion, but I tend to be less captivated by heavy guitar. The two together, however, throbbing in sync, leaves little room for skepticism. At least this was the case with Blitzen Trapper. Their performance at the High-Dive this week sold me on the band and the venue forever. This six man troupe unleashed their rhythm and melody mercilessly on those of us committed enough to venture to Washington Park at 11pm on a Monday. Rarely do harmony and distortion compliment one another and even more rarely is the story they take turns telling punctuated with Dylanesque harmonicing and a Casio. Blitzen Trapper is Glam Rock gone grunge, a union surprisingly organic, each drawn to flaunting their own brand of brash disobedience and disinterest in pleasing the hands that feed them. And though their low-ankled sneakers are no substitute for silver platform heels and their untucked cotton crewnecks expose their Portland roots, Blitzen Trapper is Glam Rock’s prodigal son! They’re proud. They’re loud.
I lost some hearing to them this week…but it was worth it.

Mykonos - Fleet Foxes
Fleetwood Mac Foxes. Makes sense that they're touring with Blitzen Trapper. Two bands tuned to an earlier era. Catch'm at the Hi-Dive on Monday!

My Favorite Year -Destroyer
As with the 2006 release, Destroyer's Rubies, I had to listen to Destroyer's latest album, Trouble in Dreams, several times before I liked it. Destroyer's Rubies turned out to be one of my favorite albums from that year. That album was my first experience with Destroyer - singer/songwriter Daniel Bejar. The second experience lacks the novelty of the first, but it is a nice extension of Bejar's sound. The opening song, Blue Flower/Blue Flame, is another favorite from the album.
Caught a limited performance from him last year playing with the New Pornographers at the Boulder Theater. Glad to see he's got a solo show at the Walnut Room in Denver March 3rd!
